Voices of Youth Indigenous Leaders 2023

In June 2023, our Information Governance & Data Projects staff member Muin Ji'j Bernard and eight other youth Indigenous leaders won Canada's Youth Indigenous Leaders Award. The Senate of Canada awarded the Canada's Youth Indigenous Leaders Award, which identifies talented youth Indigenous leaders in Canada based on their educational background. Muin Ji'j had the opportunity to testify in front of the Standing Committee of Indigenous Peoples at the Senate of Canada, meet with the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, and collaborate and speak on important issues with Senators.

"[W]orking hard toward your dreams can lead you anywhere. You never know; someday, I might be on the other side of this table, listening to the next generation of Indigenous youth leaders sharing their stories." - Muin Ji'j Bernard, Union of Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq
